People can take an Alan Alda performance for granted, simply because he is Alan Alda and every performance he gives is equally brilliant. Well, this performance in the Woody Allen classic is him at his most unhinged and darkly humorous. Most of the film is mildly forgettable, but Alda’s performance is longstanding. Ever since he became a star with arguably the most popular show ever put on television M*A*S*H, he has been such a fresh voice in the industry. He has given a handful of terrific performances, but none of them top this. He is simply sensational.
