Top to Bottom: Al Pacino

5.

Sonny Wortzik

Dog Day Afternoon (1975)

“It's your job, right? The guy who kills me... I hope he does it because he hates my guts, not because it's his job.”

This is one that many people cite as Pacino’s best work. For me, it is going to have to settle for spot #5. His work here is different. It is a tragic character, one that shows Pacino’s vulnerability and ability to break your heart. His character is on edge the entire film, yet it has an unexpected emotional depth, and Pacino is at the height of his powers. I love every bit of it. The scene where he screams out, “ATTICA! ATTICA!” will forever be engrained in the audience’s mind. Haunting stuff.
