This is the vintage Pacino performance that everyone identifies him with. It is the role that started the “Pacino being Pacino” age. He even claims that this is his favorite performance he has done. Every word that Montana mutters seems like a punch line, and every moment that Pacino is one screen makes for an instantly classic moment. His character is about as full of rage as any in the history of movies, and Pacino absolutely owns it. Everyone immediately thinks of the line “Say hello to my little friend!” as being the defining line of Pacino’s career, but this film is just loaded with them, all of them being flawlessly delivered. It is always great to know when an actor was having fun doing his part, and there is no way that someone could have lived in a character that much without having a blast. It is just pure awesomeness.
